Pizza, parties and photobombs...or the obligatory Academy Awards post
I spent more time watching TV yesterday than I have in a long time. First I watched the NASCAR race in Phoenix (and seriously, I don't like onions so hooray for Kevin Harvick and people getting a free bloomin' onion at Outback but I'd prefer a discount at Jimmy Johns).
But after the race ended I switched channels over to ABC for the Oscars red carpet. Honestly I don't know why they think 90 minutes of interviewers kissing celebrities rears is necessary, but as I had friends at the Oscars in the bleachers I watched in hopes of seeing them on TV (I didn't, but I did find them in a photo online!)
As for the Oscars themselves, honestly I wasn't that engaged before it started. I haven't seen ANY of the films nominated for a major award (not even Frozen...I know I'm a bad Disney fan! I do know all the words to "Let It Go" though!) But once the show started I was ROTFL, Ellen DeGeneres was one of the best hosts ever. I honestly don't think the jokes she cracked at the beginning where that bad, even the people she took digs at seemed to mind (even Liza, after all she was totally up for taking selfies later...and yes I did help by retweeting Ellen's ultimate group selfie).
The Oscars are the ultimate in Hollywood glamour, but this year's seemed to be one big party!

From Benedict Cumberbatch photobombing U2
Pharrell William's infectious performance of "Happy"
Lupita Nyong'o's joyous Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech
Director Steve McQueen literally jumping for joy at '12 Years a Slave' winning Best Picture
And Ellen's celebrity pizza party
But let's get to one thing that gets talked about each year, the outfits! Honestly there wasn't one dress that stood out to me as my ultimate favorite, but there were plenty of ladies who hit it out of the park both for the show and the post-awards parties.
On The Red Carpet
Amy Adams in Gucci
Idina Menzel in Vera Wang
Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior
Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab
Lupita Nyong'o in Prada
Julia Roberts in Givenchy
Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta
Olga Kurylenko in Suzy Amis-Cameron
After Parties
Lupita Nyong'o in Miu Miu
Anne Hathaway in Viktor & Rolf
Doutzen Kroes in Delphine Manivet
Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta
And let's not forget...the men!
Chris Hemsworth
My favorite, hands down, Benedict Cumberbatch *drools*

Fun to watch with you last night! I enjoyed this year's show as well. Ellen was a terrific host in my opinion. Seth McFarland made me uncomfortable last year. I hope the selfie/pizza party makes a return next year.
ReplyDeleteI had fun too! I think after Seth McFarland and the fiasco with James Franco (Anne Hathaway was adorable but Franco sucked) the Oscar people really can't do worse *knocks on wood*
DeleteI completely FORGOT about Seth McFarland! lol Ellen brought it back big time last night and I greatly enjoyed the show. She should just host every year from now on just how like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler should host all the Golden Globes from now on. I wasn't a fan of the nude trend this year, but I felt a lot of ladies wore it well. I also thought it was nice how Lupita N. channeled Cinderella for her big win. I wish Anne Hathaway had worn the after-party dress all day instead of the sequin breast plate dress she wore. Lots of guys in white jackets too. Very Casablanca! I loved seeing Benedict too. I had no idea he was in "12 years a Slave". I just assumed he was photobombing again. lol
ReplyDeleteNude is always a big favorite, but not everyone can pull it off. I thought Cate Blanchette looked good but all the sparkle helps it from looking flat. Honestly I wasn't a fan of Lupita's dress at first, I was seeing the dress and not the person. But the more I saw it in different lighting the more I loved it. I was surprised to find out it was Prada, I would not equate such a princessy dress with Prada (I mean this is the house that came out with a collection featuring flames a few seasons ago), although I think the neckline is very Prada. Regardless it is a beautiful dress.
DeleteI knew Benedict was in '12 Years a Slave' (I'm familiar with all of the Best Picture nominees even though I haven't seen any of them). I think that was his "in" as far as attending the awards (I'm pretty sure this was his first time), but it probably doesn't hurt that 'Sherlock' is super popular right now.
I was surprised that was Prada too. It seemed super bright for them, but yeah the neckline is them.
