Gen Con 50 Preview: Things To Do (Besides Gaming!) Part 1

Well folks, it's here. Gen Con starts later this week. I'd like to think I'm prepared, but at this point I'm not sure. I've still got a lot to do before Thursday, and have to get it done on top of my day job, plus recording and releasing this week's podcast, sleeping, and general life....But for better or for worse, Gen Con is coming....

So besides gaming, as it is the "4 Greatest Days In Gaming" what else is there to do at Gen Con? Quite a bit actually:

The costume parade will take place approximately an hour before the contest, anyone may join the parade, it's not just limited to those who've entered the contest. The parade will gather just outside Hall A, with the route entering Hall A, crossing through the Event Hall and exiting out Hall D. It will continue into the Crossroads Corridor and exit outside. The parade will then continue east down Maryland Street through the Maryland Street Motor Lobby where it will turn right at the corner of Capital Avenue and will commence at the Capital Avenue Plaza.

At 4pm the costume contest will begin in the 500 Ballroom of the convention center. The contest is FREE to watch and doesn't require any pre-registering or event tickets. Come see some of the most talented cosplayers around!

The Blood Mobile will be onsite for three days, Thursday-Saturday, and thanks to The Westin Indianapolis, there will be TWO Blood Mobiles on site on Friday!

The Blood Mobile will be located at the following locations during the following times:

Thursday, 10am-3pm, just outside the Westin
Friday, 11am-4pm, at the Indiana Convention Center (at the Maryland Street Motor Lobby)
Friday, 10am-3pm, just outside the Westin
Saturday, 10am-3pm, at the Indiana Convention Center (at the Maryland Street Motor Lobby)

Gen Con 50 Featured Food Trucks
Making sure you get something to eat is an important part of any convention experience, and Gen Con gives you plenty of options with a street full of food trucks. This year, the options have expanded even further, with trucks located on South Street in front of Lucas Oil Stadium, in addition to Georgia Street and Capitol Avenue. The trucks will be in rotation throughout the con but the general hours are:

Georgia Street and Capitol Avenue: Wednesday, 5-11pm; Thursday-Saturday, 11am-11pm with an hour change over between 4-5pm; and Sunday, 11am-5pm

South Street between the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium: Thursday-Saturday, 11am-5pm daily

I'll be back tomorrow with Part 2, panels and the vendor hall!
