PDA, sick people and screaming children...

Day #3 of the Blog Every Day In May Challenge: Things that make you uncomfortable

I consider myself a fairly laid back person (well maybe not laid back, more like blissfully content at being sheltered in my own little world). However I am not immune to getting annoyed and skeeved at certain things in this world...

Don't get me wrong, I love my husband and I've been known to give him a quick kiss, a hug or even the occasional (discreet) butt squeeze. I have no problem with that as far as PDA goes. I'm talking more about the swallowing each other's faces, hands up shirts (or down pants), shield your kid's eyes PDA. You know what I'm talking about, you need a crowbar or a fire hose to get those people apart. Totally unnecessary, reserve that for the bedroom.

I work in retail and encounter all sorts of people during my work day. And 99% of the time I don't have any issues. However if you are sick (and I don't mean just sniffles), please stay at home and out of public. I've had customers come through my line and say they have the flu, they've been in the hospital for this or that, I even had a guy once who had what I was fairly certain was blood on his hands. Ewwww! And you expect me to take your money and touch the items you've been carrying around in your germy hands? It's no wonder my hands are dry and chapped, I have to wash them 10 times a day.

I'll admit it, I am not a child person. My husband and I are child free by choice and happy with that. But I'm not ignorant either, I know kids get tired, sick and cranky (heck you should see me when I get sick, I turn into Sheldon Cooper). My husband and I have a running joke at Disney World, whenever we hear a kid screaming one of us will call out to the other "Baby meltdown". My husband does a hilarious rendition of a screaming child. That being said, I have a threshold when listening to people's kids go on and on and on in a fit. My mom says that when I was little I threw one tantrum in the grocery store, she proceeded to walk away and once I figured out it wasn't getting me what I want, I calmed down and never threw a fit again. I understand it isn't always practical to walk away if your kid starts a tantrum....just understand that not only is your kiddo probably annoying you, he/she is bothering others around you as well.

  1. Sick people definitely make me a bit uncomfortable. Which ties in with children, because having kids puts you in contact with all kinds of crazy sicknesses. uggh. I will be there to snuggle and love on my boy, but part of me will definitely be obsessively washing my hands!

    1. LOL! I understand! I see friends post on Facebook all the time, "This kid has been sick, now the other kid has it or I have it...." Not that it's the kid's fault, their immune systems aren't fully developed. But they are little bundles of germs. Thank goodness for anti-bacterial soaps and hand sanitizers!

    1. Glad I'm not the only one. I was at Disney World a few months ago and walked past this couple who were trying to swallow each other's faces and the guy was groping the girl's butt. And there were a bunch of families with small kids walking by. Seriously gross!

    2. We've seen that at Disneyland too. It's mostly younger couples (teenagers). I get that they don't have a private space to do that, but seriously, going ALL OUT like that in public? Gross! Go to the parking lot or something. LOL
